Benefits provided by dental insurance vary considerably.
Coverage for the treatment you require
will range from 0% to 100%. The percentage broken down depends on
the type of treatment - preventative,
basic,
or
major treatment.
All insurance plans pay benefits according to a fee
schedule they have developed. These plans may be less than the dental
fees normally
charged by most dentists for a particular service. For example:
If you dental plan covers 80%, it would be 80% of their accepted
fees. (Not necessarily 80% of what we have charged.)
Most dental
plans control their costs by establishing yearly maximum benefit
limitations. Dental care today may often exceed this yearly
maximum. All patients should be aware of their dental maximums
and pay attention to how much they have utilized throughout the
year in other offices. This factor alone should not dictate
whether necessary dental care is received. Ultimately though, the
patient is responsible for the bill.
Our Procedure for Insurance is as follows:
1. If your dental plan requires a pre-determination of
benefits, we will be happy to submit your treatment plan for review
by the
plan consultants to establish how much they will pay on your behalf.
However, remember that it takes at least 30 days to receive a reply
when preauthorizing for benefits.
2. We will be happy to
assist you in calling your dental company to get an
ESTIMATE of
what they may pay based on the percentage rates they give us. We
ask the patient to make payment at the time of surgery based
on what we
ESTIMATE the insurance will not pay.
